Jöns och Ninnie Ringborg emigrerade som nygifta till Chile i mars 1917. Ninnie återvände till Sverige med barnen 1931, Jöns kom att stanna kvar i Santiago till 1960. En stor skatt av brev har bevarats till och från denna familj. Brev som belyser dramatiken att i att gå i exil under och mellan två världskrig, brev som skildrar längtan, skuldkänslor, olösta familjekonflikter och ett aldrig sviktande hopp om bättre tider.
