Description

In 2021 works by 169 Swedish artists were purchased by Moderna Museet in Stockholm. This was a political initiative and the governments aim was both to support the Swedish arts sector by purchasing artworks by Swedish artists and to give Swedish citizens access to the acquired artworks by incorporating them into state collections. This publication presents the many acquisitions, including introductions of both the artists and works. Katarina Wadstein MacLeod writes in her text that modernism was born out of diversity. Through Swedish Acquisitions 2021, Moderna Museet has been given a substantial dose of diversity that will mark the development of the collection for a long time to come. A collection never stands still especially not in times of crisis.
