Description

In Karin Lind's art, sculpture, painting, and scenography constantly interact. Hers is a practice that oscillates between the contrasting worlds of the bustling stage room and the quiet oasis of the studio. A deep-seated interest in spatiality and in the nature of the materials themselves is evident in all of Linds work.

Ann-Marie Tung Hermelin follows this interest through Linds extensive scenographic designs as well as her painting, sculpturing and collective experimentation as part of the artist duo SIMKA. The result is a distinctive form of art criticism that reveals unexpected links between stage sets and the creativity of the studio.

Richly illustrated, Cacophony and Stillness is a book for anyone with an interest in scenography and the spatial possibilities of art.

Karin Lind was educated at the Swedish Institute of Dramatic Art, the Royal Institute of Art, and the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Since the 1980s, she has been active as both an artist and scenographer and has worked on more than a hundred stage sets in Sweden and abroad, cooperating with directors such as Lars Norén and Susanne Osten.
