Cortex var inte som andra band. Deras historia kännetecknas av ständiga medlemsbyten, en oregelbunden skivutgivning och en dramaturgi som går helt emot den konventionella. Ändå blev de tidigt kultförklarade och var ett av den svenska punk- och postpunkscenens mest mytomspunna och inflytelserika band. Mycket tack vare dess karismatiska frontfigur Freddie Wadling, men precis som Dennis Lyxzén skriver i förordet var Cortex så mycket mer än bara Freddie. Och vice versa.
