Slavko Mihalic kan betraktas som en typisk representant för den moderna intellektuella kroatiska poesin. Det är en poesi som allt sedan 50-talet, i och med Titos strävan bort från Stalin, arbetat sig vidare in i modernismen och allt mer lämnat den deklamatoriska och patreotiska socialrealismen bakom sig. Slavko Mihalic är den första kroatiske poet som publicerats i bokform på svenska.
